Kathryn plans to attend Coastal Alabama Community College at the Bay Minette campus, where she will major in Elementary Education before transferring to the University of South Alabama after two years. Alongside her studies, she will continue pursuing her passion for working with children by working part-time at a preschool.
She was a member of DHS choir for the past four years, serving as an alto section leader and even performing with Foreigner, an experience she’ll never forget. Kathryn also participated in swim team for three years, attending swim meets and coming just shy of making state her sophomore year. Academically, Kathryn is graduating with honors, an achievement she is incredibly proud of. She shares that the past four years have been emotionally challenging, but staying committed to her schoolwork and pushing herself through those difficulties has made her success especially meaningful and rewarding.
When asked about a teacher who made a difference, Kathryn points to Mr. Towler. “He’s taught me how to succeed in life,” she says. Even though he jokingly blames her for all his burps, he laughs at every one of her jokes—which makes it all worth it.
Kathryn’s favorite high school memory is Senior Sunrise, a moment she describes as pure joy. Seeing everyone come together for a tradition, meeting new people, and reconnecting with old friends made it unforgettable.
She also gives special recognition to Ms. Smith, who Kathryn proudly calls her G.O.A.T. Mrs. Smith has been a constant source of support, laughter, and comfort—especially on the hardest days. From letting Kathryn sit quietly in her office to giving her a sense of belonging when she needed it most, Ms. Smith has made an impact that Kathryn says she’ll carry with her forever.
Kathryn’s advice to others:
"You don’t have to have everything figured out—just keep moving forward, take opportunities when they come, and learn from every mistake. The path won’t be perfect, but it will be yours.”
